Please check the Facebook links to see if the listed cafés are still open, or if they have moved. Covid-19 has been a very difficult time, and the information found in this blog post may unfortunately not be current. To the best of our knowledge, this information is current as of 2/4/2021.

What are our favorite cafés in Siem Reap, Cambodia?

It’s no mystery that there are countless cafés grabbing for your attention when visiting Siem Reap, Cambodia. And to be honest, many of them provide excellent coffee and food options, so it’s difficult to really go wrong no matter what you choose. That being said, there are some cafés that we’ve found to have an extra touch of character, and we’d like to feature six of them here:

Bang Bang Bakery-Café

Green-Go Garden ☚ closed

The Little Red Fox Espresso

Yellow Café

Footprints Cafés

CRANE

NOTE: this is breakfast/lunch specific, and we’ll be featuring more dinner-centric establishments in a future post.

What is it about these cafés that you like?

Bang Bang Bakery-Café

For starters, Bang Bang Bakery-Café bakes their own artisan breads, and you can purchase those breads outside of any of the delicious sandwiches on their menu, which is a rare find considering most of the ingredients need to be imported into Cambodia. In addition to their breads, they also bake an array of cakes, tarts, pies, cookies, pretzels, donuts, etc. While some of these items are seasonal or only produced on certain days of the week, Bang Bang Bakery-Café is a dangerous destination for anyone with a sweet tooth! Did we mention they bake their own breads?

Green-Go Garden

This vegetarian/vegan spot scores extra points for its vibe. When you walk through Green-Go’s sliding glass door, you kick off your shoes/sandals and decide whether or not you’d like to sit upstairs, or have a seat at one of their floor tables. Everything from the colors, murals, decor, combined with a fantastic attention to detail on their menu makes it a must for anyone in need of a chill place to lounge and sip a detoxifying smoothie. If it’s not too hot, we definitely recommend the upstairs if you’re looking for a great place to hangout with a large group; it’s spacious and open-air. And their vegan pizza: you must try their vegan pizza!

The Little Red Fox Espresso

Exceptional treasures can be found in little packages, and The Little Red Fox Espresso is evidence of these discoveries. While their entire menu is on point (and simple), this quaint little nook in Kandal Village scores its shine from its fancy list of caffeinated beverages – and its staff. Not only can you taste the craftsmanship in every sip, but the staff never misses a beat in the way they accommodate their customers with a smile and eagerness to help. The nod to classic artists on walls, like Sinn Sisamouth and Pen Ran, is a nice touch that opens people up to a musical history they may not be unaware of. Their chili mocha is a nice choice if you’re looking for something to spice up your day!

Yellow Café

Yellow Café is more of a local spot, but if you’re looking for somewhere relatively spacious with aircon off the touristy path, and inexpensive options for food and caffeine, Yellow Café is where you may want to go. While it might take a couple attempts at clarifying what you’re ordering (and you should clarify), everyone has always gone above and beyond to make sure we’re taken care of when we visit. This is one of our favorite places to go if we need somewhere quiet to work for the day. They also have specials where you can get a cooked meal and drink for $4 – $5, which we haven’t found another café that beats in terms of price.

Footprints Cafés

Footprints Cafés is a social enterprise that checks all the environmental boxes, while simultaneously providing a relaxing atmosphere and great food/drinks. It’s also hard not to notice the hundreds of books neatly displayed on their bookshelves throughout the café, which are available for customers to purchase. In addition to providing an inviting aesthetic, dollars from these sales go towards providing community grants. Before you visit, be sure to check out their Facebook to see if they’ve got any fun competitions going on where you can win an item on their menu. They’re also notorious for posting food porn & puns!

CRANE

While we’re still unsure how to acquire membership, CRANE is a peculiar clubhouse of caffeine, uniquely prepared dishes – and cool. You can tell they’ve dialed up the “rough around the edges” approach with a hint of artistic sophistication that gives their establishment an authentic feel. Everything from the hand written menus to the unfinished tables and polaroids on the walls, this place speaks to the stories of wanderlust many people have when visiting Temple Town. We’ve come for their Tom Kha on more than one occasion, which can be prepared with chicken or tofu. If you’re into fashion, film, and/or photography, you’ll be glad you came.

Where can I find these cafés?

Thank you for checking out  some of our favorite cafés! We hope to see you in the Cambodian countryside soon…
